JUMC announces 2009 scholarship winners

Sarah McQuaid is the recipient of the John Christopher Allen Memorial Scholarship for 2009. She is the daughter of Mike and Ann McQuaid, a graduate of Ragsdale High School and plans to attend the University of North Carolina in the fall.

Among her many activities, McQuaid was vice president of Key Club and a member of the National Honor Society and Greensboro Young Life. She went on a mission trip to New York City with the church and volunteered at Pennybyrn.

Nicole Lankford, the daugh-ter of Scott and Susan Lankford, is the winner of the first Berry/Williams Scholarship. Lankford graduated from Northwest Guilford High School and will attend Appalachian State University in the fall. She was a member of the band at NW Guilford, member of DECA club; went on a mission trip to New York City with the church, is a member of flute choir at church and has participated in equestrian sports since the age of 7.

Ashley Wilkes is the winner of the Dr. Dennis G. Carroll Scholarship. Ashley is the daughter of Wes and Linda Wilkes. She graduated from Ragsdale High School and will attend the University of North Carolina. While in high school she was treasurer of the Key Club, president of the Latin Club, member of the National Honor Society, Junior Marshal and sports editor of the yearbook. At church she was a member of the youth group, Faith Friend, volunteered for Operation Christmas Child and Trunk-or-Treat.

Jessica Gulledge received the Ingle Family Scholarship. She is the daughter of Laura and Perry Gulledge. A Ragsdale High School graduate, Gulledge plans to attend the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She was a member of the varsity soccer team, Key Club and National Honor Society. She also participated in mission trips to New York and New Orleans with the church.

PJ Burger, the son of Phil and Sarah Burger, is the winner of

the Jonathan Brent Jackson Memorial Scholarship. He graduated from Ragsdale High School where he was a member of the varsity soccer and swim team, Key Club, Beta Club and Latin Club. He participated in mission trips to Mississippi, New Orleans and Philadelphia with the church. Burger will attend North Carolina State University.

Jacob Forrest is the winner of the Kenneth Miller/Dr. Austin Fortney Scholarship. He is the son of Mark and Tammy Forrest. A Ragsdale High School graduate, Forrest plans to attend North Carolina State University. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Latin Club, Beta Club and National Honor Society. He went to Mississippi, New Orleans and New York on mission trips with the church.

Katie Pazur is the recipient of the Mickey Peeler Scholarship. She graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and will attend the University of North Carolina. At school she was a member of the varsity softball team, Junior Classical League and Slideshow Club. Pazur was a Girl Scout, member of the youth group at church and participated in Choose to Share Christ, 30-Hour Famine. She is the daughter of Scott and Teresa Pazur.

Molly Gillespie received the Kim Royston Memorial Scholarship. The daughter of Dan and Nancy Gillespie, she graduated from Southwest Guilford High School and will attend Appalachian State University. Gillespie was president of the student body, a member of the National Honor Society, varsity soccer team and Junior Civitans. At church she participated in mission trips to New Orleans and Philadelphia. She also volunteered at Shadybrook Elementary School.

Taylor Askew, daughter of Dennis and Kim Askew, also received the Kim Royston Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from Ragsdale High School and will attend Appalachian State University. Askew was secretary of the

student body and a member of the Show Choir. She was a member of the youth group at church where she participated in 30-Hour Famine and Choose to Share Christ.

Laren Bahouth has been awarded the Dr. William and Millicent Saunders Memorial Scholarship. The daughter of Fadi Bahouth she graduated from Greensboro College Middle College and will attend North Carolina State University. She participated in mission trips to New Orleans and Philadelphia, as well as Choose to Share Christ.

Addison Haines is the recipient of the Randol Smith Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Brad and Robin Haines. A graduate of Southwest Guilford High School, Haines will attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Haines was a winner of Wendy's Heisman for Outstanding Academic/Athletic Achievement. He was a member of the tennis, swimming, soccer and track teams. Haines attended a mission trip to Washington with the church.
